UBC Concrete Canoe

During the height of the pandemic, we remained committed to monitoring the situation as it evolved and following public health recommendations.  In the 2020-2021 season, we decided to transition to remote work as instructed by UBC’s COVID-19 policies. Despite those unforeseen circumstances, all design activities continued as usual.  However, we did not build the canoe because of the restricted access to our usual concrete testing laboratory and construction space.  
The 2021-2022 season saw us implement a mix of in-person and remote activities as the situation evolved.  When restrictions eased we were able to cast our first canoe in two years!  All of the previous season’s meticulous planning paid off in a fantastic competition performance.
We consider our team members’ safety a top priority and will continue to adapt our operations based on information and advice provided by the health authorities.
